Summit, New Jersey-based Optimus Healthcare Partners was formed in December 2010 by two New Jersey independent practice associations: Vista Health System and Central Jersey Physician Network (CJPN). Atlantic Health System, one of New Jersey’s largest not-for-profit health care systems, has an ownership stake in Optimus and representation on the Optimus board.
Optimus Healthcare Partners and the Atlantic Health System ACO were both chosen in 2012 to participate in the Medicare Shared Savings Program; Optimus serves 34,542 beneficiaries in 11 New Jersey counties. Optimus includes physicians from the combined 650 physician membership of Vista and CJPN and six hospitals: Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Somerset Medical Center, St. Barnabas Medical Center and Warren Hospital.
In addition to the MSSP, Optimus has three commercial ACO agreements. In August 2012, Optimus and Atlantic Health formed a commercial ACO with Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey to serve more than 40,000 Horizon members. In January 2013, Optimus and Aetna entered into an accountable care agreement that included 11,900 Aetna members covered under fully insured plans and Aetna Medicare Advantage members in nine New Jersey counties. And in July 2014, Optimus entered into an agreement with UnitedHealthcare to provide accountable care to 17,000 employer-sponsored and Medicare Advantage health plans.
Optimus was financially the 14th-best performing MSSP in its first reporting year, with shared savings of more than $17 million.
