A CEO new survey conducted by The Advisory Board says identifying best practices for physician engagement offers the best opportunity to improve performance. Nearly 90 percent of hospital and health system executives reported an interest in physician engagement-nearly twice as likely as any other response. In the previous year, physician engagement ranked third.
The annual Health Care CEO Survey was fielded in December 2014 and includes 157 C-suite executives.
According to the survey results, rounding out the top five greatest opportunities for performance improvement include: redesigning service portfolios for population health, strengthening primary care physician alignment, utilizing direct-to-employer contracting, and controlling avoidable utilization.
Our Take: Our clients are always asking about how to engage ACOs and other integrated systems. If your goal is to create partnership opportunities by demonstrating value, finding a way to increase physician engagement is a useful place to start.
