Cigna launched a collaborative care initiative with Lahey Clinical Performance Network. Cigna said it is the first arrangement of this kind for Cigna in the Boston area. The agreement covers 7,000 Cigna plan members who receive care from the Lahey Clinical Performance Network, which includes physician affiliations Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital and Winchester Hospital.
Separately, Cigna said it is launching a collaborative care initiative with Harrisburg, Pa.-based PinnacleHealth. Pinnacle is a not-for-profit health system in central Pennsylvania with five hospitals, 636 beds, and treats 720,000 outpatient visits annually. Also part of the system are PinnacleHealth Medical Group, PinnacleHealth Cancer Institute, the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute and a rehabilitation hospital. It is part of the RiverHealth MSSP ACO.
Cigna has 134 collaborative care agreements in place across 29 states. In their model of a commercial ACO, registered nurse clinical care coordinators are responsible for managing high-risk and high-cost patients. Occasionally these care coordinators are funded in part or full by Cigna.
